An optical scanning device designed to read information printed in the form of bars of different size by detection and processing of the varying reflectivity of light in the bar code. It consists of a light source, a lens and a light sensor translating optical impulses into electrical ones. In addition to a scanner, a barcode reader must contain decoder circuitry for analyse the barcode's image data provided by the sensor.
