Burp/reflex charging has been around for eons though. It's the method often used in the various primary cell rechargers that have cropped up in the past. I suppose it possible that this high school student has refined the technique in some way, but I have my doubts. It's been possible to charge NiCd/Mh in 15 minutes for many years now and still get more than "a few recharges" from them.
